5 Teams Likely To Get The No. 1 Overall Pick In The ‘25 NFL Draft

The NFL season is approaching, and teams are preparing to begin their quest for a Super Bowl Championship. Other teams might be gearing up to battle for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft . Here are five of the likeliest teams to finish with the worst record in the league this year:

    5. Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings lost quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency and now have Sam Darnold and rookie J.J. McCarthy battling for the starting spot . Minnesota’s offense seems destined to struggle throughout the season, with Cousins now out of the picture. Justin Jefferson can be argued as the best wide receiver in the game, but his production will likely drop if either Darnold or McCarthy throws him the ball.

The Vikings are coming off a seven-win season in what seems to be an up-and-coming NFC North division. There’s not much about the Vikings’ roster to be excited about heading into the season.

    4. Denver Broncos

The Broncos are coming off an 8-9 season and a second-place finish in the AFC West. Like the Vikings, Denver let go of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson and drafted Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL Draft. Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson are also on the roster to compete with the rookie for the starting job.

The Broncos traded former first-round pick wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns during the offseason, taking away production from an already lackluster offense. There have also been rumors for quite some time now about the possibility of trading All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II , although that’s seeming more unlikely as the start of the season gets closer.

This Broncos’ team lacks the firepower to do anything special this season.

    3. New England Patriots

The days of consecutive first-place finishes and deep playoff runs are over in New England. Coaching legend Bill Belichick is no longer the head coach of the Patriots after 24 seasons with the gig. The Patriots are coming off two straight years of missing the playoffs, including a four-win season last year.

Former first-round pick quarterback Mac Jones was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, so New England signed veteran Jacoby Brissett and drafted Drake Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Whoever earns the starting QB job won’t have much to work with offensively. There isn’t a defined No. 1 receiver on the roster, and the receiving room as a whole is one of the worst in the league.

The defense does have some good players, but they won’t make up for this offense.

    2. New York Giants

The Giants are in shambles. Quarterback Daniel Jones is entering his sixth season in the NFL and coming off a torn ACL in Week 9 of last season, which caused him to miss the remainder of the year. It’s safe to say the former first-round pick has been nothing short of a disappointment for New York who signed a four-year $160 million extension in 2023 through 2026.

The Giants lost star running back Saquon Barkley in free agency to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles and replaced him with Devin Singletary. New York did use the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to select former LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers, but the offense still has a lot to prove. The receiver room is fairly young with much to prove, and having a shaky quarterback and incompetent offensive line doesn’t help their case.

Trading for Pro Bowler Brian Burns on defense was a fun move though, wasn’t it Giants fans? Expect a long season of suffering.

    1. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers' ranking at No. 1 on this list shouldn’t come as a surprise. Carolina is coming off a two-win season, and it doesn’t seem like that will change in 2024 .

The offense was one of the worst in the league in 2023, and although Diontae Johnson was a solid addition at receiver, he’s not enough to drastically change anything. The defense wasn’t the worst in 2023 but wasn’t good either. Trading Burns to the Giants won’t help the units’ cause.

Start doing your homework on NFL Draft prospects and Panthers fans because, in April, your team will likely be on the clock first.
