BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – On Wednesday, a woman is dead following an apparent homicide in Hiland Park.

Bay County deputies said they were dispatched to a suspicious person walking along Highway 231 near Transmitter Road around 11:30 a.m. appearing in distress.

A patrol deputy was able to locate and make contact with the female identified as 37-year-old, Tiffany Braddock.

Deputies said Braddock began making statements that she killed her mother at their shared home on East Orlando Road.

According to a news release, a welfare check was conducted at the home where the victim 73-year-old Elizabeth Braddock was located deceased with signs of foul play.

Sheriff Tommy Ford says he can’t release any specific details about the case just yet, but described the scene as brutal and gruesome.

Investigators also completed a safety sweep of the residence to confirm that no other possible victims were inside the home.

Officials then obtained a search warrant where they confirmed further evidence of the homicide was located. The Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit also responded.

“A lot of documentation that’ll be required. The crime scene evidence is packaged and sent to the crime lab and with consultation with the crime lab on what type of services, forensic services are needed on that evidence. Yeah, a lot of documentation and reports and investigative reports done to document the results of the investigation. So that we can provide the state attorney’s office with a clear and complete picture of what happened so they can make prosecutorial decisions,” Sheriff Tommy Ford said.

Ford said they are working to move the case forward as effectively as possible.

“Make sure that we’re conducting a thorough investigation as far as the crime scene, gathering all the evidence and processing that, interviewing the potential witnesses, neighbors, family members to determine in the past history and things like that,” Sheriff Ford added.

Braddock was transported to the Sheriff’s Office, during an interview she confirmed her involvement in her mother’s death.

Braddock will be charged with an open count of murder and booked into the Bay County Jail.
