ROCKVILLE, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Montgomery County is set to enhance its ePlans software, aiming to streamline the process of obtaining residential permits for home renovations and constructions. Whether you’re building a new deck or renovating your home, the ePlans system allows you to submit your application and construction plans electronically.

Gail Lucas, the DPS Customer Support and Outreach Division Chief emphasized the importance of this electronic system, stating,

“Our electronic plan review system is the major system that our plan reviewers use to look at plans, to mark plans, to put comments, to get information back to customers about their project,” said Lucas.

The upcoming updates are designed to improve workflow efficiency.

“We are engaged in a multi-phase upgrade of that system, a major overhaul of that system to make it more efficient, to make it easier to use and to make it more intuitive we hope for our customers,” Lucas added.

To assist users with the new interface, DPS is holding virtual training sessions. “We are offering some customer training just to get people familiar with the new interface, to get familiar with the way the program functions,” Lucas explained. Additionally, DPS has produced five training videos available on the county’s YouTube channel and the DPS website.

Lucas also highlighted the expanded capabilities of the ePlans software.

“The ePlans software is designed to bring into the electronic world some permit types that are not currently electronic or that are just becoming electronic like their well and septic applications,” said Lucas.

The residential building ePlans update is scheduled for Monday, July 29, with the commercial building ePlans update planned for late August.
