Indianapolis Colts Sign Former 1st Round Wide Receiver To Deal

The Indianapolis Colts are one of the most intriguing teams in 2024. Fans only got a small taste of Anthony Richardson last season before he underwent season-ending surgery. However, that small taste was electric. His dual-threat ability was on display, and the Colts hope this is the quarterback of the future. They are looking to surround him with quality weapons. The team added another one on Wednesday, signing former first-round pick Laquon Treadwell to a deal.

Laquon Treadwell was drafted 23rd overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He was a standout in college with the Ole Miss Rebels, and many thought he would flourish in the NFL. That has not been the case. Treadwell has been on seven different franchises and has never surpassed 500 receiving yards in a season. 2021 was his best season with the Jacksonville Jaguars when he had 33 catches for 434 yards and a touchdown.

Injuries have been a huge part of his lack of production. He has only played in 11 games over the past two seasons. The Indianapolis Colts hope the veteran can help their young quarterback. Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and rising star Josh Downs will likely take the top three spots on the depth chart. If Treadwell can be a solid depth piece and provide some veteran leadership, that could be just what this team needs. He may just be a body that they are bringing in for training camp but if he impresses, he could earn a roster spot.

2024 Outlook

The success of the Indianapolis Colts season depends on the health of Anthony Richardson. Their division has some winnable games. While the Houston Texans are tough, the Jaguars and Titans may not provide as much of a challenge. If the former Florida Gators quarterback can become a top-ten player at his position, the Colts could win a lot of games in 2024.

If nothing else, the Indianapolis Colts are going to be fun to watch in 2024. Even if a team has a poor record, they can be a must-watch because of a certain player. GM Chris Ballard is making sure there are plenty of weapons at his disposal. After years of bouncing from quarterback to quarterback, they have finally settled on a young prospect. Treadwell hopes to follow a similar narrative. After bouncing around the league for years, he hopes this is the stop he can finally show his true potential.
