Iggy Azalea Opens Up About Single Parenthood, Says She’s Not Co-Parenting

During an episode on Sony Music Entertainment’s Dinner On Me podcast with host Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Iggy Azalea opened up about her experience as a single mother to her son Onyx.

Azalea revealed she is taking full responsibility for parenting her son, whom she welcomed with Playboi Carti in 2020. She emphasizes that she’s a single mother and isn’t co-parenting: “I’m very much the only parent, no disrespect, but yes, I am not co-parenting really, and that’s just the reality of it.” The rapper added that motherhood is a 24/7 commitment and shared how being a mother shifted her priorities. “I no longer want to be traveling around everywhere. I want to take my son to school. I want him to have memories with me and give him that time,” Azalea explained.

According to PEOPLE, Azalea put her career on hold to focus on raising Onyx and stated that being a parent requires your child to be the top priority. She revealed that she went on tour with her son on a bus for two years but decided it was time to create a more stable environment for him. In January, the rapper tweeted that she would no longer finish her album and wanted to focus on her daily life.

“In truth what I’ve known for a long time is that I feel more passionately about design and creative direction than I do about song writing. To many of you that’s no shock to read. It shows in my work.  Haha! Jokes aside, i do spend a lot more time on that part of things… because Im most confident at that. That’s why I want to let you know that I’m not going to finish my album. It’s been paused for a few months while I was giving direction for a different project & in truth I just haven’t felt the urge to go back to it. I feel really happy & passionate in my day to day life when my minds focused on that and so I want to stick to what’s undeniably best for me.”

The rapper previously called out Playboi Carti for his alleged lack of parental involvement with their son under a fan edited video, saying: “Its cool how you can fit damn near every visit into just one video. Talented!”
