EXCLUSIVE : Blumhouse Television is “betting on itself” after buying back the 45% stake that it sold to ITV in 2017.

Jason Blum’s company struck a deal with ITV Studios, the production arm of the British broadcaster, to launch Blumhouse Television seven years ago.

It has now bought back this stake and is going back to being independent with Blumhouse Television being integrated under its parent company, Blumhouse.

Deadline understands that Blumhouse has paid $60M for the 45% stake. It’s not clear how much ITV paid in 2017 as the figure was never public.

It marks the latest asset that ITV has sold in recent months; the company sold its 50% stake in streamer BritBox International to BBC Studios in February for $322M.

This comes after Blumhouse Television launched hit Netflix docuseries Worst Roommate Ever, which has now turned into a franchise for the streamer with spinoff Worst Ex Ever launching on the streamer in August and a movie in the works with Paul Feig.

However, Blumhouse will continue to have a relationship with ITV after it extended its unscripted overall deal with ITV America for three years.

ITV America co-produces Worst Roommate Ever and Worst Ex Ever and the two companies will continue to develop and produce non-scripted series through 2027.

Elsewhere, Blumhouse Television has a big slate of scripted series in the works including three series for Amazon: The Bondsman starring Kevin Bacon, The Sticky, starring Margo Martindale and Scarpetta , based on Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling book series starring Jamie Lee Curtis that is expecting a two-season order.

Blumhouse Television has also been behind series such as The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, The Horrors of Dolores Roach, The Good Lord Bird, The Loudest Voice In The Room, The Purge and The Thing About Pam.

Jeremy Gold was running the television division but left in April, having taken over from Chris McCumber, who exited last year . Former ITV America exec Gretchen Palek, who previously ran Leftfield Pictures as co-president, is head of alternative at Blumhouse Television.

Abhijay Prakash, President, Blumhouse: “When we started in television, we needed a great partner and we’re thankful to ITV Studios for their partnership for the last seven years. Now, with the momentum of our first television franchise, the time is right to bet on ourselves. This new structure will integrate our organization so we can remain nimble and at our creative best. And I’m pleased that our extension of our deal with ITV America means we’ll still be in business with ITV in some form for years to come.”

David George, CEO, ITV America, added, “The Blumhouse brand is uniquely powerful in that it transcends platforms and opens up a world of opportunity for many types of content. We’ve had a great working relationship with the entire Blumhouse team over the last three years and we’re eager to work together on more breakthrough unscripted content for the next three years, and hopefully beyond.”
