A man has been jailed for slashing a teenager with a machete multiple times in north London .

A 19-year-old was attacked on Parkland Road in Wood Green in broad daylight at around 1.20pm on November 8.

The Metropolitan Police said his attackers fled the scene “leaving him for dead” before officers turned up and performed life-saving first aid until medics arrived.

The victim was airlifted to hospital and he became stable following emergency surgery.

CCTV footage showed Kennedy Latigo, 28, travelling to and from the scene with a second suspect.

Latigo was arrested on November 30 as he attempted to flee the country at Stansted Airport .

Three other men were also arrested following the attack but were released with no further action.

Latigo was taken into custody and at first pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent.

The suspect, from Hows Street in Hackney , was remanded in custody to await trial.

He later entered a guilty plea on May 20 and was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment at Wood Green Crown Court on July 19.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Rachael Pagett said: “This was a shockingly violent attack that clearly intended to end the life of the victim.

“Were it not for the fast actions and first aid skills of my uniformed colleagues this could so easily have been a murder investigation. Their actions undoubtedly saved the victim’s life.”
