Jamie Carragher already sent Pedro Neto transfer plea to former Liverpool defender

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto this summer.

The flying Portuguese forward is as exciting as they come on the pitch, offering dynamism and attacking guile aplenty. And his eye catching performances over the course of the last four seasons for Wolves have garnered plenty of interest from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City , Arsenal and Newcastle United .

GiveMeSport report the Reds are interested in making a double Wolves transfer swoop for Neto and left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in a deal that would cost around $126m (£98m/€116m). While Neto has three years remaining on his contract, his ability is clear for everyone to see.

The 24-year-old is also a versatile attacker, capable of playing off both flanks, behind a central striker, or through the middle, something which might interest new Reds boss Arne Slot . And one former Liverpool star who would love to see Neto ditch Wolves for Liverpool is ex-Reds ace Jamie Carragher .

Speaking to another ex-Liverpool defender Conor Coady back in 2021, Carragher asked the former: "Have you spoken to him about how good Liverpool is?" Naturally, with Coady being Wolves skipper at the time, he had to reply: "He's not leaving Wolves!"

Coady then added: "He’s [Neto] class, him. You forget he’s 21, I look at him as a 28-year-old. He doesn’t look that age. We were talking the other day and we were on about how he’s born in 2000 and we were putting him in the same category as Phil Foden.

"You look at how well he’s doing and then you look at the numbers Pedro is bringing up as well, and the assists and the goals and how he’s affecting games for Wolves. He’s an incredible player, absolutely incredible."

Earlier this summer, it was reported Neto would cost around $77m (£60m/€71m), which would represent a sizable outlay for Liverpool, albeit, one which sees them bring in a player who can operate all over.

However, a major cause for concern when it comes to Neto is that in each of the last four seasons, the 24-year-old has spent extended spells on the sidelines.

During the 2020/21 season, he fractured his patella which sidelined him for the majority of the following campaign. But then in the 2022/23 season, Neto suffered an ankle injury which required surgery, forcing him to miss the World Cup in Qatar, and putting him out of action for nearly five months.

While he returned last season fighting fit and looking better than ever, registering seven assists in the opening 10 games of Premier League action, a hamstring injury sidelined him in November, leaving him out for nearly two months. And then in March, the Wolves winger suffered another hamstring injury, effectively ending his domestic season.

He did play 12 minutes against Liverpool on the final day of the season, and for Portugal this summer at Euro 2024.
