Investigators Close Iowa Murder-Suicide That Ended In Dane County

(Dubuque) The murder-suicide case that began in Dubuque and ended in Dane County is now closed.

Authorities in Dubuque County, Iowa, yesterday said their investigation into the murder of a local woman, the kidnapping of two children, and the death of the baby’s father is complete.

The case began in April when investigators say Alexander Grunke shot and killed his baby’s mother in Dubuque. He then took off with the baby and a 15-year-old girl. Dane County authorities say Grunke dropped off the baby but fled with the teenager until they crashed near the Town of Dunn. Investigators say the teenager then ran into the woods; she was later found dead.

Grunke was later found dead by suicide in the basement of a local home where he’d holed up.
