There may not be a team in the NFL that had a more disappointing offseason than the Dallas Cowboys . Virtually nothing was done to improve a roster that won 12 games last season but was blown out by the Green Bay Packers during Super Wild Card Weekend.

There were some major losses on both the coaching staff and roster. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn left to become the head coach of the Washington Commanders, which is a big void to fill.

Defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. followed him to Washington, while linebacker Leighton Vander Esch retired because of injury. Running back Tony Pollard and left tackle Tyron Smith left in free agency on offense, creating a few holes there.

On top of the lack of player movement, the Dallas Cowboys didn’t get extensions done with either quarterback Dak Prescott or wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Prescott has shown up to training camp, but Lamb has not yet reported.

How can the front office change their offseason fortunes? Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report detailed how the team could fix their roster.

One of the moves Sobleski suggested was to sign veteran free agent wide receiver, Hunter Renfrow. Adding depth to the position behind Lamb would be a good idea to help take some of the pressure off of him.

Veteran Brandin Cooks remains in the mix, but the Dallas Cowboys are lacking an established option behind him. Jalen Tolbert will get a chance and the team waited until the sixth round in the 2024 NFL Draft to select Ryan Flournoy out of Southeast Missouri  State.

Renfrow would bring some stability to the position, providing Prescott with a reliable option out of the slot. Lamb does line up there a good amount of the time, but having another player capable of producing out of the slot would enable the Cowboys to move their star around the formation.

“At this point in free agency, Renfrow’s price tag shouldn’t be exorbitant. Instead. he should see an opportunity to play alongside Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott, while immediately stepping in as a critical component to squad with high expectations,” Sobleski wrote.

This could be a win-win for Renfrow and the Dallas Cowboys. He gets a chance to rehab his value with a team projected to be in the playoff race this season.

The Cowboys not only get an affordable wide receiver option but more insurance in case things get uglier instead of better with Lamb’s negotiations.
