The Carolina Disco Turkeys are a relatively young summer collegiate baseball franchise, but this week they’ve seen two former players take big step in their baseball careers.

Austin St. Laurent, a key member of the inaugural Disco Turkeys team back in 2021, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 14th round of this year’s MLB draft yesterday. The Appalachian State third baseman becomes the first Disco Turkeys player drafted by an MLB club.

Also this week, a hard-throwing starting pitcher from last year’s Disco Turkeys team, Adam Conrad, was signed by the San Diego Padres organization. Conrad is a local product who played his high school baseball at Forbush and played college ball for Carolina University.

“We’re very excited that these two players have had their talents and hard work recognized and wish them continued success,” said Disco Turkeys team president and owner Greg Sullivan. “Austin St. Laurent was a leader on our inaugural team and is a great person and hard worker in addition to being a remarkable talent. Adam Conrad was a big part of our pitching staff last summer and also is someone who will represent the Triad and Disco Turkeys well as he moves on to the pros. Both were an absolute joy to have as part of our program and we’re very excited for them and their families.”

St. Laurent came to the Disco Turkeys after a redshirt year at East Carolina and shined on the summer collegiate team before transferring to Appalachian State, where he went on to a decorated career. He was a standout defensive shortstop at the time and a great bat in the Disco Turkeys lineup as a young player. St. Laurent batted .321 during the summer season, batting mostly in the No. 3 spot for the Disco Turkeys.

Conrad consistently pitched in the 90s for the Disco Turkeys this past summer and was a key member of the team’s rotation. He also shined at Carolina University this spring, leading the Bruins in innings (55.2) and strikeouts (72).
