CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating after a person was found unresponsive inside a Wadmalaw Island home early Wednesday morning.

Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home off Boy Scout Road around 8:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

An unresponsive victim was found inside. Officials said a bystander was performing CPR on the person when they arrived; however, the victim was pronounced dead by Fire and EMS personnel.

“The CCSO Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Services Unit immediately responded to the scene, in addition to the Charleston County Coroner’s office,” officials said.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 18-year-old Sashonna Bellman from Wadmalaw Island. Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said Bellman died from a gunshot wound; however, the manner of death is pending further investigation.

There have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office by calling 843-202-1700.
