New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen didn’t hold back when asked about Saquon Barkley leaving the Giants for the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Appearing on Kay Adams' " Up and Adams " show on Thursday, Schoen addressed the departure of Barkley, the team’s standout running back, and whether he would have handled the situation differently.

Schoen was candid about the decision, revealing that he wouldn’t change anything despite some disappointment among Giants fans.

“No, I wouldn’t have,” Schoen said. “I think both parties tried. This started back in 2022, and I think a lot of people forget that.”

The general manager acknowledged that the negotiation process had been ongoing for some time, and although the team made efforts to retain Barkley, they ultimately couldn’t reach an agreement.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get anything done and we wish Saquon nothing but the best,” Schoen added.

While some Giants fans are saddened by Barkley’s departure, others are relieved, given the hefty contract he received from the Eagles and his injury history.

Barkley signed a three-year, $37.75 million deal with Philadelphia, including $26 million guaranteed and an average annual value of $12.6 million, making him the fourth highest-paid running back in the league.

Barkley has only played 16 or more games in two of his six seasons and has faced significant injuries, including an ACL tear.
