    Driver killed in crash involving tractor-trailer in Cherokee Co.

    CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer Thursday morning has been identified.

    The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office identified 65-year-old Benjamin Handsome White as the victim of the fatal crash that happened before 9 a.m. on Old Georgia Highway at South Green River Road.

    According to the coroner, White was attempting to turn left in a 1998 Ford pick-up truck onto US 29 from South Green River Road when he was T-boned in the driver’s door by a tractor-trailer headed south on US 29.

    White was entrapped in the vehicle for a short time before first responders rescued him. He was taken to the medical center where he later died.

    An autopsy has been scheduled to assist in the fatal collision according to the coroner.

    The crash remains under investigation by the SCHP.
