Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has reportedly asked to pause contract negotiations at Goodison Park amid transfer links to Manchester United.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a superb breakthrough season for Sean Dyche's side as they battled away from Premier League relegation in 2023/24 as part of a solid partnership alongside veteran James Tarkowski.

His stock has continued to rise, despite narrowly missing out a place in England's final Euro 2024 squad, with United the rumoured frontrunners to complete a deal.

The Red Devils have registered an interest in the towering center-back, with two bids already rebuffed by the Toffees, as the Merseyside club hold out for a £70m ($90m) asking price.

As part of their plan to protect a key asset, Everton are also looking to extend Banthwaite's current contract beyond its expiry in 2027, with improved salary terms.

His present deal is rumoured to feature a £3.6m ($4.7m) annual salary, which Everton are happy to increase, but United's offer is closer to £8.3m ($10.7m).

As per the Daily Mail , Everton's proposed offer is below United's, and Branthwaite will now halt talks at Goodison Park to see if Everton can come close to United's rumoured package.
