OWEN COUNTY, IND — A man was arrested on Wednesday for the murder of Malik Sims, whose body was discovered near the Owen-Monroe county line.

The suspect, Quentin Porter Jr., was located using a stolen car, an auto parts store receipt, and information from Sims’ friends. Porter faces charges of murder and auto theft.

Sims’ body, found on July 15 along Stephenson Road, was later confirmed to be the result of a shooting.

On July 16, police located Sims’ Audi parked outside Porter’s grandmother’s home. The grandmother reported Porter had stolen her Chevrolet Malibu, which led to his detention. Although she requested no charges for the stolen car, Porter was released.

A search of the Audi revealed blood, signs of attempted cleaning, and spray-painted areas. Porter was not present during the search but had been seen with the car earlier.

Sims’ family grew concerned when he didn’t return home and couldn’t be reached. His roommate traced his phone to the area where the body was ultimately found.
