JONES COUNTY, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Shots were fired during a law enforcement pursuit in Jones County.

The pursuit began during a traffic stop near the intersection to CR 303 and FM 600 around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday.

A press release from the Jones County Sheriff’s Office states a suspect, later identified as Clemente Luna, attempted to evade law enforcement during the stop, so they set up spikes at the intersection.

When Luna noticed the officer setting up the spikes, the press release states he drove toward the officer, prompting another officer to open fire.

Luna continued to flee and was later apprehended when he was forced to stop.

He was hospitalized with a minor injury then booked into the Jones County Jail for Manufacturing Delivery Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, and Evading Arrest Detention.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Anson Police Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety all assisted in the pursuit and subsequent arrest of Luna.

Texas Rangers are now investigating this incident. No further information is available at this time.
