BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. ( DC News Now ) — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said a man was in custody Wednesday after resisting arrest while yielding a chainsaw.

Deputies said they received a report that Cory Cutlip, who was wanted out of multiple counties for a slew of charges, was located.

At 6:33 p.m., deputies went to Rockcliff Drive and saw his car in the driveway and his mother in front of the house. Deputies then saw Cutlip on the porch and told him to come with them.

Cutlip refused, went into the trailer and came out with a chainsaw.

“Cutlip began yelling that he wouldn’t go back to jail and that officers were going to have to kill him with his chain saw running,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Deputies repeatedly told him to stop and put the chainsaw down but Cutlip’s “behavior kept escalating,” causing deputies to worry that he was going to hurt them, himself or his mother who was close by.

From there, a deputy took out his TASER and used it on him.

Cutlip dropped the chainsaw and fell off the back of the porch. He then started running but deputies were able to arrest him.
