Draymond Green Would Rather Not Make The Playoffs Than Go Out In The First Or Second Round

In a recent appearance on the 'Club 520 Podcast,' Warriors star Draymond Green gave his latest hot take on the NBA post-season. As the 4x champion explained, he'd rather just go out and enjoy an extended offseason with freedom than to go out and waste time in the playoffs to come home after the first or second round.

"After winning four championships and making the playoffs and losing in the first round or second round, I'd rather not. I'd rather go home and enjoy my summer than to go out in the first or second round and not have a real chance. At no point are they going to hear like, 'Yo fellas we got to make the playoffs' like don't waste my time... We trying to win championship that's the talk but making the playoffs that's some Indiana Pacers talk."

Draymond, 34, is a legend for the Warriors for his crucial role in their championship runs. As a core piece of a basketball dynasty, Green looks back on the golden days with pride and it has made it hard to accept his current situation. After back-to-back seasons of subpar basketball, the Warriors have fallen on hard times but it will take more than a few post-season wins for Dray to feel any satisfaction.

Conversely, for most teams and players, making the playoffs is a major feat given that it puts them in play for the championship. However unlikely, every team that makes the playoff cut believes they have a puncher's chance at the Larry O'Brien trophy. Of course, we know that not every team is built equally.

For Draymond Green, there's a huge difference between a playoff team and a true championship-contending team. And as someone who has won four championships with the Warriors, Draymond just isn't willing to settle for winning a series or two. Of course, he also doesn't want to get all the way to the Finals only to lose in the final round .

Funnily enough, Draymond's wishes came true this past season when the Warriors finished 10th in the West and proceeded to lose the must-win play-in game. The Warriors were done before the playoffs even started and apparently, that's the scenario he prefers over working a few more weeks to get bounced in the early rounds.

The big question for Green going forward is how the rest of his career plays out. With Klay Thompson gone, there's a major void in the backcourt and it will take a massive effort from the entire team to fill his shoes and make up for the vulnerabilities.

After averaging 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game last season (with top-tier defense), Green proved that he can still perform to standard on the court. But if he can't keep his emotions in check, it could further destabilize an already volatile situation with the Warriors.

With so many variables at play (including the health and well-being of Stephen Curry), it's impossible to say what lies in store for the Golden State Warriors. All we can say for sure is that they will be fighting hard for the championship and to stay competitive in the Western Conference.
