Brittney Griner Sends Blunt Statement on Diana Taurasi's Team USA Retirement Announcement

Phoenix Mercury stars Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi have been teammates for Griner's entire WNBA career.

Griner was drafted by the Mercury with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, while Taurasi has been with Phoenix since 2004.

In addition to that, both Griner and Taurasi played overseas for Russian professional women's basketball team UMMC Ekaterinburg together from 2015-2017.

Which is to say that these two women are extremely familiar with one another.

Taurasi made it known on Thursday that the Paris 2024 Olympics will be her final time playing for Team USA.

And Griner made her feelings about Taurasi's last Team USA Olympics run clear during an episode of the "In Case You Missed It with Khristina Williams" podcast.

"It's going to be emotional," Griner said of Taurasi's final time playing in the Olympics. "Because we all know [Taurasi is retiring]. But D is a legend. That's the GOAT.

"I mean, I'm still in awe of her. And how she's still able to compete at this level.

"Yeah, she is going to be missed, big time," Griner added.

Clearly Paris is going to be an emotional time for Griner and Taurasi alike.
