    Crews respond to car fire on Bay Bridge: CHP

    ( KRON ) — The California Highway Patrol responded to a Bay Bridge car fire on Thursday. The fire shut down three lanes on Interstate 80.

    The fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. westbound by the Harrison Street offramp, and all lanes have reopened just past 1 p.m. CHP said to expect “residual delays” as of this report.

    At 11:30 a.m., CHP said the car was seen “visibly engulfed,” blocking the first lane of I-80. Several minutes later, CHP said the car caused the first two lanes to be blocked.

    Fifteen minutes past noon, the San Francisco Fire Department said crews were at the scene and “quickly extinguished” the fire by the Harrison Street offramp. They said the cause of the car catching fire was “accidental/mechanical.”

    CHP reported no injuries. CHP is telling drivers to expect delays as of this report.
