Which state has the most Olympians in the 2024 Paris Games?

The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially underway on Friday with the United States, again, aiming to top the medal count, as it has in the previous seven Summer Games.

The U.S. will have nearly 600 athletes competing in the Olympics and Paralympic Games, with  California the most-represented state with 142 athletes, according to Team USA .

Florida (46), Texas (42), Illinois (39) and Pennsylvania (35) round out the top five best-represented states. Thirteen states have 20 or more athletes represented (North Dakota and Wyoming are the only states not represented).

Athletes' hometowns are likely to change in their journey to be an Olympian, however.

According to NBC , only one-third of this year's Team USA still live in the town where they grew up. Training is rigorous and moves typically revolve around the best training facilities or opportunities for athletes.

There's also a collegiate flair to the Games.

According to the NCAA , more than 1,000 current, former and incoming NCAA student-athletes will compete in Paris.

The United States has nearly 400 on its roster. Stanford (54) and USC (52) are the best represented universities worldwide.

Michigan (41), California (39) and Florida (39) round out the top five. The Big Ten is the most represented conference with 298 athletes, besting the SEC's 264.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will end on Aug. 11.

The Paralympics, also in Paris, are Aug. 28-Sept. 8.
