Kentucky's June unemployment rate higher than in 2023

Kentucky has seen a rise in unemployment over the past year in most of the counties. The unemployment rate did fall in 10 counties.

110 counties in Kentucky saw their unemployment rate from June 2023 rise in June 2024.

Kentucky Center for Statistics showed Cumberland County with the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 3.9%. It was followed by Washington and Woodford counties, 4% each. Fayette and Scott Counties came in at 4.2%

Eastern Kentucky saw the highest unemployment rates. Martin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 10.7%.

It was followed by Magoffin County, 10.5%; Breathitt County, 9.6%; Elliott and Leslie counties, 8.7% each; Knott County, 8.4%; Lewis County, 8.3%; Carter and Harlan counties, 8.2% each; and Clay County, 8.1%

The comparable, unadjusted unemployment rate for the state was 5% for June 2024, and 4.3% for the nation.
