WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Graham County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scam call going around.

“Today a scam call occurred to a Graham County resident stating it was an Officer of the Graham County Sheriff’s office by a name that is not one of our officers,” said the GCSO in a Facebook post . “Luckily the receiver of the call knew this as well, and as soon as they said they would call the Sheriff’s Office themselves, they hung up.”

The GCSO says the scammer told the resident that they were calling in regard to jury duty papers sent to them.

“Those papers do not even come from the Sheriff’s Office.”

“Scammers use tactics that are enough to sound like you may be dealing with a legitimate person,” said the GCSO.

To confirm if a call is legitimate, hang up and call back the official number of whoever is claiming to be calling you.
