The Los Angeles Chargers' offseason was headlined by a staff overload. There are a ton of new faces around the organization on the aching staff and in the front office. The roster has some intriguing new pieces from free agency, too.

One free agent addition by LA told reporters that he is one of the league's best running backs when he is healthy.

Dobbins makes bold guarantee about his first season with Chargers

"I do think if I get the volume, I'll be one of the best in the league. I've shown that."

-- Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins via ESPN

It  may be an uphill climb for Dobbins to prove that this season, though. Chargers writer Daniel Popper ( The Athletic ) listed how he thinks the RB depth chart currently stands in a recent article . The veteran is not the projected starter right now.

Projected Chargers 2024 running back depth chart

    • Gus Edwards
    • J.K. Dobbins
    • Kimani Vidal
    • Isaiah Spiller
    • Elijah Dotson
    • Jaret Patterson

That being said, Edwards has missed both training camp practices so far as he recovers from offseason surgery. Dobbins has been a full go. He has been a full participant and even said that the game has felt slower to him since his return to the field.

Regardless, talent is not the problem. Dobbins has to stay available if he wants to flourish for Jim Harbaugh's new team. The RB has played in just 24 of a potential 73 games since getting drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. He's dealt with multiple serious injuries, including an Achilles rupture in Week 1 of 2023.

For the Chargers, they don't particularly need him to be one of the top running backs in football. He just has to take care of the ball and be available alongside Gus Edwards at the top of the depth chart.

If Dobbins does succeed in year one in LA, that could cost young RB Isaiah Spiller his job on the depth chart. He's a potential cut candidate for this season.

There’s a new regime in Los Angeles, and even with that regime favoring the run game, Spiller might have a target on his back. The former fourth-round draft pick in 2022 has 55 carries over the past two seasons and is averaging just 2.5 yards per rushing attempt. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman brought in two players they’re familiar (J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards) with and the team drafted Kimani Vidal . Releasing Spiller would also save over 800K against the salary cap. -- Chargers contributor Charles Goldman

No matter what - you cannot doubt Dobbins' confidence in himself to bounce back. His boldness may garner some more eyeballs entering the preseason for the Chargers.
