Art of Time Ensemble has announced the creative and cast for “The Soldier’s Tale Retold.”. The production, which retells Stravinsky’s “L’Histoire du Soldat” with a new libretto by Titilopee Sonuga, will star Diego Matamoros as Devil, Wade Bogert-O’Brien as Devil understudy, Olaoluwa Fayokun as Soldier, and Ordena Stephens-Thompson as Narrator. Tawiah M’Carthy directs the production.

Providing that one accepts the context uncritically, it can be a gripping, quick-moving drama that rattles along with plenty of rousing and emotionally strong melodies. Think too deeply about the behavior and motivations of the characters, then it can all appear somewhat ridiculous.
