Johnson City, TN — When the WBSC under-18 baseball World Cup America qualifier in August gets underway there will be a Johnson City native on the team

Providence Academy senior Josh Owens was selected to the US Baseball 18u national team along with 19 others from around the country this past weekend the wait to find out if he had made the team was agonizing, but now he has plans to take full advantage of the opportunity.

“I was so nervous when they were calling the team out, but I heard my name and I just got excited and I knew there was going to be two more weeks of baseball for my summer and I couldn’t wait. My dream was always to compete. Division one. I wanted to start there and hopefully, it transfers to pro but you know watching like the WBC, you know, maybe that’s something that I dreamed of once I got to the big leagues if that’s something that happens. But competing in high school for this team I had never thought of, but I’m just more than thankful that I’m able to do it, says Owens.”

Owens will spend 10 days representing his country in the World Baseball Softball Confederation under-18 baseball World Cup America qualifier, which runs Aug. 2-11.
we’ll have more on Owens in the coming week.
