MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The town of Collierville says utility customers may receive higher-than-normal bills next week because of a mistake by an employee.

The town says a new employee either did not perform the meter readings or recorded incorrect dats from May through June.

The employee was terminated July 11.

“We understand that this adjustment may cause concern but are committed to answering your questions and concerns,” the town said in a news release.

You can contact the utility department at 901-457-2240 or email utilities@colliervilletn.gov. You can also monitor your utility account, view previous bills, and analyze your consumption at nwesuite.colliervilletn.gov/eSuite.Utilities .

In August, Collierville will begin replacing existing meters with automatic readers, which town officials say will eliminate the potential for human error.

Collierville released a statement to WREG saying, “This new technology will ensure accurate readings and eliminate the potential for human error, providing a reliable and transparent billing process for all residents.”

Collierville utilities supplies water to residents, but electricty is provided by MLGW.
