    Georgia athletes to watch at 2024 Paris Olympics

    Olympians from across Georgia are lacing up their cleats and taking their marks at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games .

    Why it matters: France is a long way from home. These homegrown heroes need to hear our cheers across the Atlantic Ocean.


    Catch up quick: We've told you about soccer stars Caleb Wiley and Emily Sonnett and tennis ace Coco Gauff , who's carrying the U.S. flag at Friday's opening ceremony.

    Here are other Olympians from Georgia to watch:

    ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€ Track and field: Jasmine Jones, a Greater Atlanta Christian School alum and NCAA national champion, placed third in the women's 400 meter hurdles at the Olympic Trials in June.

    ๐ŸŽฏ Shooting: Katelyn Abeln of Douglasville battled a nasty cold to earn a spot on the U.S. air pistol team, according to Team USA . She started practicing shooting at the age of 12 in her basement.

    • William Hinton of Dacula is a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and an instructor in the Marksmanship Unit shotgun team . He's stationed at Fort Moore near Columbus.

    ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™€๏ธ Climbing: Kennesaw State University student Emma Hunt is the first U.S. woman to qualify for the Olympics' speed climbing category, which was added to the games in 2020.

    • The Woodstock native started scaling walls at the age of 5, 11 Alive reports , and broke the U.S. record for women's speed climbing in April.

    ๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ Gymnastics: Gymnast Brody Malone, a two-time national championship gold medal winner, bounced back from a 2023 knee injury to score a spot on Team USA.

    • Malone was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, but considers Rockmart, Georgia, home, according to NBC .
    • When not spinning, twisting and tumbling, the Stanford University graduate hunts, fishes and enjoys rodeo.

    ๐Ÿ€ Basketball: Marietta's Dearica Hamby takes a break from playing forward for the Los Angeles Sparks to represent Team USA in the 3x3 division.

    What's next: The 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony will be live on NBC and Peacock at 1:30pm ET.

    • Prime-time coverage will begin at 7:30pm ET.
