Billionaire Ken Griffin Moved His Co. From IL To FL. He's Building A Big Office Compound To House It

I've covered billionaire Ken Griffin's move to Florida (along with his company Citadel) with several Newsbreak articles. From his move from Chicago in 2022 to his millions in donations to some of Florida's institutions, Griffin seems to have made himself quite at home in the Sunshine State. And now, it looks as if the move may be quite permanent - as Griffin's company has applied to bill a massive office tower close to where Citadel is currently housed in Miami's Brickell.

Citadel's Current Offices And Recent Expansion With Job Growth: In June of 2024, I wrote about how Citadel announced that it would begin taking up 8 floors at 830 Brickell Plaza in Miami's Brickell Financial District - approximately 37,000 more square footage than was originally thought.

The company reportedly wanted additional room by the end of the summer because of "another wave" of hiring.

The Plan For A New Brickel Headquarters Tower For Citadel: Companies associated with Ken Griffin have filed a pre-application with Miami-Dade County concerning a site on Brickell Bay Drive that will serve as the future headquarters of Citadel.

Griffin has previously described the first phase of construction as including offices along with hotel, retail, health, and fitness facilities as well as food establishments. The building process could reportedly take three years, and there is no word on whether other businesses would lease office space in Citadel headquarters.

In the past, Griffin has criticized the “deluge of bureaucracy” in northern cities and commented that, “It’s such a contrast to be here in South Florida."
