Police are searching for the driver of a white Ford Explorer — one of two vehicles that struck and killed a pedestrian late Thursday at the intersection of Cliffdale and Bunce roads, according to officials.

Allan L. Gockel, 53, died after being struck about 9:50 p.m. while he attempted to cross Cliffdale Road outside of a crosswalk, the Fayetteville Police Department said.

Gockel was first struck by a westbound 2014 Toyota Camry and then a white, "older model," two-door Ford Explorer that was traveling behind the Camry, according to a news release.

Both drivers initially stopped, police said, including Camry driver Jaddiel J. Lugo-Reyes, 22, of Fayetteville.

The driver of the Explorer, the release said, left when the ambulances and Fire Department arrived at the scene,

The Explorer, which possibly displayed a 30-day tag, was last seen driving down Cliffdale Road and turning north onto South Reilly Road, police said. It may have front-end damage, according to the release.
