Jamey Johnson is back and letting the world know he still is one of the best in the business. Following a hiatus of writing after a concussion, Jamey Johnson stepped back into the recording booth earlier this year, giving fans what they have long been begging for... new music. In an interview clip, Johnson shared that he has been spending a lot of free time in the studio, so I think Johnson will consistently produce new music in the future.
"Lately, I've been spending it all (downtime) in the studio. It's just been such a long time, and I really wanted to write again. It was something I used to do so easy, and I just stopped at some point." https://www.instagram.com/p/C9yNpgBi2fc/ After releasing a single honoring our lost Marines with "21 Guns," Johnson is showing fans the other side of his songwriting by releasing two new tracks today. Johnson announced the two singles the other week, sending fans into a frenzy, and these two tracks live up to the hype. Johnson looped in Randy Houser for a rockin' version of the Charlie Daniels Band classic, "Trudy," featuring a little New Orleans flare with the addition of a horn section. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdK1sG_7txc The second single Johnson dropped today is an original titled "What A View." Given the tropical aerial view for the album art, I was not sure what the context of this song would be, but Johnson does not disappoint. The tried and true country love song highlights his poetic songwriting and stellar vocals. The song transports you to the '80s or '90s when country love songs dominated the field, and this one makes you want to grab someone special and start dancing in the kitchen. The sweet lyrics compare the world's wonders to the beauty of his love and how nothing compares.
"Sitting here lookin' at you I'm thinking, what a view What a view What a view What a view What have you gotten us into What a night What a night Oh, what a night What a night can do I'm losing all concentration And you're just being you And it hit me right out of the blue What a view..." There is a reason Jamey Johnson is considered one of the best songwriters of our generation, and the simple yet moving and endearing words he chose in "What A View" highlight his ability to translate complex feelings into simple and digestible lyrics. If you've got someone special in your life, this one needs to be fired up immediately. Jamey Johnson is BACK. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKjVcOtdsL4
