This restaurant from the people behind Veeray Da Dhaba is hidden in plain sight on East 45th Street, with an unmarked entrance—a nod to its roaring twenties speakeasy theme. But it might best if you just walk by. The subterranean dining room with red velvet banquettes and dark, polished wood do have plenty of potential for a pre-Broadway show dinner. And dishes like Camel Seekh Kebab and Illegal Pheasant sound exciting in theory. But as enticing as these proteins seem, most arrive overcooked, like the gray-inside lamb chops—and other things, like a coconut naan, taste stale. A Diamond Joe cocktail reminds us of the juice from a lemon-shaped bottle that’s lingered too long in a cluttered fridge door. You could do worse for atmosphere this close to Times Square , but if you want to eat or drink anything, there are better alternatives in the area.
