Earlier this week, it was announced that the Los Angeles Dodgers were designating veteran starting pitcher James Paxton for assignment. The team had been looking to possibly trade him and now they have.

Paxton has been traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor-league infielder Moises Bolivar. Los Angeles gets something in return for a player that they were going to be rid of.

Paxton now heads back to the team that he spent last season with and the Dodgers grab a prospect for the farm system. The left-hander had been one of the more consistent arms for the Dodgers in the starting rotation but he was never going to be part of the postseason plans.

The veteran signed a one-year deal with Los Angeles this offseason and helped the team eat innings through the first part of the year. Considering all the injuries that the Dodgers have suffered so far this season, the decision to designate Paxton for assignment at this time was a curious but necessary one.

He made 18 starts for the Dodgers, going 8-2 with an ERA of 4.43. Paxton had a 1.46 WHIP over 89.1 innings of work.

What Did the Dodgers Get for James Paxton?

Los Angeles landed infielder Moises Bolivar in the deal. He is 17 years old and has only appeared in rookie ball for the Red Sox.

He is a corner infielder, mainly at third base, who has a .787 OPS and 17/21 BB:K ratio in the Dominican Summer League this season. Per @SoxProspects, he was signed in January for a $25,000 bonus and is listed at 6-foot, 175 lbs.

Through 31 games, he has hit .270 with three home runs and 19 runs batted in. If anything, Los Angeles adds another young prospect to the mix rather than losing Paxton for nothing.
