Elmore County man convicted in wreck that left woman, 7-year-old girl dead

An Elmore County man has been convicted of felony assault and misdemeanor criminally negligent homicide charges  in a fatal car crash that left a woman and seven-year-old girl dead, District Attorney CJ Robinson said.

“The number of those driving on our roads after drinking or smoking marijuana is shocking, and as long as that behavior continues people will keep getting hurt, and we will continue to do everything in our power to pursue justice for those victims,” Robinson said.

After a trial in Wetumpka, a jury convicted Tevin Robinson of two counts of assault and two counts of criminally negligent homicide, Robinson said.

Tevin Robinson, no relation to the district attorney, was driving a child passenger in April 2022, when he crossed the centerline on US 231 and side-swiped a vehicle before colliding head-on into a car driven by Sheila Frost of Titus, court records show. Both Frost and Tevin Robinson’s child passenger were killed in the crash. The child, Kyla, was the daughter of Tevin Robinson’s girlfriend.

He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison on each assault conviction, and up to a year in the county jail on each criminally negligent homicide conviction. The two assault convictions were for injuries sustained in the wreck by Tevin Robinson’s one-year-old son and girlfriend who were riding in the car at the time, said Mandy Johnson, chief of staff for the DA’s office.

His sentencing is set for Sept. 5, court records show.
