Sean Gunn has a long association with science fiction and comics. The actor is famous for playing the Ravager, Kraglin, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe . However, he has also played Weasel and Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad and will play Maxwell Lord in 2025’s Superman . Now, Gunn is adding “author” to his impressive resume, publishing his first graphic novel, Shepherds in partnership with Dynamite Entertainment .

Shepherds is a story I’ve been envisioning for years,” notes Gunn. “Dynamite Entertainment has a history of telling unique stories in creative and daring ways. They are the perfect partners to help bring Shepherds to readers. It’s thrilling to be working with them on this project that means so much to me.”

“Sean is not only a great actor, but a wonderful guy with a keen mind and fertile imagination,” noted Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. “Fans have known him as an actor in a myriad of films and shows. Now they’ll get to know him as a writer.”

    Sean Gunn’s Shepherds a post-apocalyptic dog story

The story of Shepherds is that of a future Earth that has literally gone to the dogs. Similar in scope to Planet of the Apes , this post-apocalyptic planet is populated by canines struggling to survive. Led by the melanistic Queen Guadalupe, a clan of domesticated dogs and wolves take inspiration from human poetry and art. They attempt to establish a new society based on compassion and kindness in an old stadium.

Queen Guadalupe is opposed, however, by an army of savage coyotes, foxes, and jackals. Fresh from a victory over the bears and crocodiles, they have no use for the “pets,” as they call the idealists of their kind. Things are further complicated by a battle-worn German Shepherd, who claims to be a legendary police dog named Blackberry.

“It’s a timely twist on the post-apocalyptic genre, exploring human themes through the eyes of our proverbial best friends,” added Gunn. “I can’t wait to share it with an audience.”

The art team, release date, and further information on Sean Gunn’s Shepherds is forthcoming.
