A dog's paws may seem tough, but they can be incredibly sensitive to the elements. Sometimes, taking them for a walk requires special coverings, like shoes or boots, to protect their feet. Pilot the Golden Retriever just got a new pair of shoes, and it's safe to say he's not a fan. Like, at all.

In the July 24 TikTok video shared by Daddy Long Legs ( @adventuresofpilot ), the funny pup is making his opinion of the pesky shoes known. Watch him try them out and be prepared to chuckle!

"When you put shoes on your *special* Golden Retriever," the video begins as Pilot stands with one foot in the air to show his displeasure of his new shoes. Though Mom continues telling him everything is fine, Pilot disagrees.

The funny Golden tip-taps awkwardly around the room until deciding he'd rather not stand in them at all and hops into the chair. He must think the problem is the floor and not his shoes because in the chair, he's cool, calm, and collected. In the history of things he's been given, clearly these aren't his favorite thing (but it's cute to watch!).

Of Pilot's more than 19,000 followers, many completely understand the pup's dissatisfaction.

"He straight up said 'mum, I ain't a human, I ain't putting my foot down' at the start and just accepted his fate at the end," one person commented. "He said, 'my paws are not met for these shoes,'" another said. "Floor is kinda of lava," another joked.

So far, the score is Shoes = 1, Pilot = 0, but we're rooting for him!

Do Dogs Need Shoes for Hot and Cold Weather?

Putting shoes on your dog may not be the easiest thing, especially if they instantly hate them. But Small Door Veterinary says there are times when shoes or boots can help such as:

    • Winter: Ice and snow, as well as de-icers (which may also cause chemical burns), can hurt, big time. Likewise, salt crystals can be sharp and painful to step on.
    • Summer: The sidewalks heat up quickly in the summer and can cause painful burns on a dog's feet. If it's too hot for your bare skin, it's too hot for their exposed paws.
    • While hiking on rough terrain: Rocks and rough terrain isn't exactly comfortable to step on.
    • When allergies strike: If your dog has allergies to grass, shoes or boots can help keep the paws from direct exposure.

To get your dog used to the shoes, put them on for short periods of time before actually using them in the world. With treats and positive reenforcement, they'll soon realize it's not so bad. Repeat the process inside the house until they're comfortable wearing them and, as always, be patient and consistent.

Pilot may not love his shoes now, but maybe one day, they'll become his favorite accessory!
