Davon Godchaux wants a new contract from the New England Patriots, but so far, nothing has happened.

While there have been talks, the two sides have yet to come to an agreement. And on Friday, following the third training camp practice , the defensive tackle spoke with reporters about the contract uncertainty.

"I mean it's frustrating, but I'm going to give it to my agent. I'm going to let Drew (Rosenhaus) handle it. He's been doing it for a long time. He's got my best interests. So I'm just going to roll with it and control what I can control," Godchaux said candidly. "It's frustrating playing out here with no guaranteed money, but I’m going to put it in Drew’s hands."

Godchaux went on to explain that he feels his role as a run player on defense is often "overlooked" because it's a passing league. So he wants to get rewarded for his consistency and continued effort.

The Patriots have made it a priority to extend many of their star players this offseason, and they have done that fairly well. Prior to practice on Friday, Jabrill Peppers was rewarded with a contract extension. He is now the ninth player to receive a new deal, joining Kyle Dugger, Christian Barmore, Rhamondre Stevenson, Mike Onwenu, Hunter Henry, Kendrick Bourne, Anfernee Jennings and Joshua Uche.

However, he isn't letting his contract status get in the way of his feelings towards his teammates.

"I'm excited for all those guys. I'm not jealous of none of those guys. Of course you want to get paid too, but I'm excited. Those guys deserve it," Godchaux explained. "I'm never going to be jealous of my teammates, my brothers who I go to war with each and every day on the field and off the field.

"I just want some stability,” Godchaux added. "I want to feel some love too."

While the two sides have not agreed on anything yet, Godchaux is optimistic that it is coming.

"I think so," Godchaux said. "I would love to retire here... My family loves it here. But we'll see. It's football heaven here. The greatest all time played here. So I would love to be here."

So how have those conversations with the team been going?

"It's been a lot of negotiation. It's been a lot of back and forth. But its not an even round right now. Hopefully we can get something done, but it's been definitely a negotiation. Definitely a lot of back and forth. Definitely hasn't been a standstill process. But hopefully we can get something that meets both our criteria and we both are happy."

And while Godchaux mentioned wanting to retire in New England, he isn't anywhere close to hanging up his cleats.

"I got a lot more years in me," Godchaux told reporters. "I'm healthy. I've been available every game my last three years here."

The defensive tackle and Matthew Judon are two players who have been very vocal about wanting new contracts.
