Team Ireland celebrate in ecstatic video as they join the Olympic Games Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony

Team Ireland has shared a video of themselves celebrating the beginning of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The opening ceremony takes place this evening.

The Irish athletes stood on a boat on the River Seine, decked out in their custom-made uniforms by Irish designer Laura Weber. They waved tri-color flags and danced. A blue flag with ‘Irande’ written on it can be seen hanging on the side of the boat.

It was announced today that golfer Shane Lowry and athlete Sarah Lavin would carry the Irish flag for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

The duo led Team Ireland along a 6km stretch of the Seine, as part of the historic event.

For the first time ever, the opening ceremony was held outside of a stadium. The teams paraded down the city’s famous and iconic River Seine on boats instead of the typical marching.

The route ends in front of the famous Trocadéro, opposite the Eiffel Tower. There, president Emmanuel Macron will make the official opening speech, and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron will take place.
