TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo Co. Sheriff’s Office spoke to the press for the first time since the passing of Sheriff John Plasse was announced.

The community continues to mourn the passing of Vigo Co. Sheriff John Plasse. Members of the sheriff’s office, where the sign still bears his name, spoke to the press about the loss of their leader. Chief of operations Derek Fell says that Plasse is the kind of man that the community will miss.

“Even in his last few days, last few weeks, you send him a text message or you call him and you said how are you doing? He would immediately turn it back on you and ask you how you were doing,” Fell said “You knew on one end what he’s going through, what he’s facing. He’s gotta be in pain, he’s not in the best of health, and he puts it back on you. He wants to know how you were doing, how your day is going, what’s going on with your family, what’s going on with your life and I think he did that with so many.”

: “I’d be lying if I said I haven’t shed some tears here in recent days knowing that he’s not going to walk through the office,” Fell said. “We’re not going to speak , we’re not going to text, not going to call. It’s hard but I’m blessed to have known him as long as I did.”

More information on Plasse’s funeral arrangements can be found here .
