The Miami Dolphins delivered an epic Friday news dump, agreeing to a new four-year contract extension with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa's new deal will pay him more than $214 million over those four seasons, giving him an average annual salary just over $53 million per year, ranking him third on the NFL's list of highest-paid quarterbacks in terms of yearly salary.

Just to put that in perspective, not only is Tagovailoa getting the richest contract in Miami Dolphins history, but this deal will pay him more per year than Dolphins Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino was paid for his entire NFL career (via ESPN's Adam Schefter, Over the Cap):

Marino was obviously one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, and with this new contract, Tagovailoa will now be expected to take his game to another level.

One of the few things Marino never accomplished in his legendary career was winning a Super Bowl, and the Dolphins are clearly paying Tagovailoa this much money in hopes that he's able to bring home a Lombardi Trophy in the near future.
