6 Maryland men arrested in crackdown on car rallies

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Maryland State Police (MSP) announced Friday that several people were charged in a multi-agency crackdown on car rallies known as “takeovers.”

Takeovers are “illegal activities” that involve “blocking public roads for dangerous stunts, disrupting traffic, causing property damage and posing risks to the public,” according to the MSP .

In June, MSP formed a Maryland Car Rally Task Force to investigate these car events. Officers responded to three separate rallies throughout Prince George’s County in July and arrested six people.

The following were charged in connection to illegal exhibition driving events in Prince George’s County, according to the MSP:

• Terrel Marshall, 22, of Suitland;
• Alex Agustin, 22, of Laurel;
• Kyle Allen, 24, of Lanham;
• Jarard Walters, 21, of Essex;
• Malik Coleman, 24, of Baltimore;
• London Flores, 19, of Silver Spring.

Violence has sparked at some car meet-ups in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County in recent months.

In May, 26-year-old John Phipps was found shot to death at a car meet in a shopping center parking lot in Prince George’s County.

Less than a month later, two men were killed in a triple shooting at a weekly car meet-up in Accokeek. They were later identified as 48-year-old Sheldon Proctor of Waldorf and 55-year-old Patrick Savoy of Charlotte Hall.

Since the Maryland Car Rally Task Force launched, police have increased patrols in hotspots, including Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.
