Team Arizona at Paris Olympics Amid Rainy Opening Ceremony

Paris launched its first Olympic Games in a century today with a rain-drenched opening ceremony along the Seine River. The Games run through Aug. 11.

Despite the unusual rain, athletes remained enthusiastic, some using umbrellas as they floated down the river.

Highlights included French judo champion Teddy Riner and triple Olympic gold medalist Marie-Jose Perec lighting the Olympic cauldron, which rose into the night sky.

The weather also led to unique performances, including Celine Dion’s first live performance since her diagnosis with stiff person syndrome.
