Saint Joseph County, Ind. — The Saint Joseph County Police Department has unveiled significant upgrades to its shooting range, reflecting a commitment to excellence in law enforcement training. With a fresh concrete slab, a new pole barn, and on-site instructors, the revamped facility aims to elevate the skills of both active and reserve officers, horse posse members, and corrections officers.

These enhancements are not only benefiting local officers but also supporting training for over half a dozen departments nationwide. The upgrades, which cost approximately $96,000, are designed to provide a comprehensive training environment that includes firearms handling, de-escalation tactics, and less-lethal options.

Sergeant Kyle Labere, the department’s Training Coordinator, emphasized the facility’s dual focus on effective weapon training and critical de-escalation techniques. "Our goal is to ensure that every officer, regardless of their role, receives the necessary training in a safe and well-maintained environment," Labere stated.

The range's improved infrastructure also serves a broader community, with agencies from North Liberty, New Carlisle, Roseland, Pokagon, Mishawaka, and South Bend all utilizing the upgraded space. The enhancements are set to foster better-trained law enforcement professionals and contribute to safer communities.
