It didn’t take long for Liverpool to meet Adrian again following the goalkeeper’s departure this summer.

The veteran stopper met his former employers as the Reds came up against Real Betis in their first game on their tour of the United States . Dominik Szoboszlai ’s first-half goal was enough to secure Arne Slot a first win in charge in Pittsburgh.

Szoboszlai’s strike saw him beat his former teammate, with Adrian starting for Betis after he left Liverpool following the expiration of his contract earlier this month.

The 37-year-old had already met up with some of his former club mates ahead of the game, and even presented Kostas Tsimikas and Mohamed Salah with their own Betis shirts, leading the former to joke he was leaving the Reds .

And while he tasted defeat on his first meeting with his former club, Adrian looked to have enjoyed the experience, and he was shown plenty of love from his old friends.

A video shared on social media showed Harvey Elliott running to greet the goalkeeper after the game as Adrian spoke to one of his new teammates. Elliott jumped on his back, with Adrian carrying his former colleague in a heartwarming moment.

The Spanish keeper then shared a hug with Elliott and Tsimikas as the trio laughed and joked with each other, showing the affection with which Adrian is still held in by the Reds.

Adrian also shared a touching message with Liverpool fans afterward, posting on social media: “We ALWAYS want to win, but happy with the group’s feelings and having seen good friends. Reds, thanks for your affection ever!!”

Liveprool.com says: It just brings a smile to your face to see how excited Elliott was to see Adrian again. It says so much for the atmosphere that Jurgen Klopp built among the squad during his time in charge that the players remain such good friends after departing Anfield.

Adrian is clearly still held in high regard by the Reds, having been seen as something of a father figure in the squad. He might well have stayed had Klopp not departed, but he leaves with the best of wishes.
