Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has sung the praises of current Reds number one Alisson Becker , insisting that there is no better all-round player in his position in the world.

Alisson is still yet to return for pre-season training after his Copa America commitments this summer but he will be retained as Arne Slot's first-choice shot-stopper for the upcoming campaign. Number two Caoimhin Kelleher has already conceded that it will be impossible to overtake the Brazilian because his level is so high.

"I'm still going to say the best goalkeeper in the world," ex-Liverpool goalkeeper James tells Liverpool.com on behalf of Fair Betting Sites . "I was part of the goalkeeping analysis department at the Euros this year and I didn't see a better goalkeeper.

"Mike Maignon won the Golden Glove and did well but I didn't see anyone who demonstrated all the skills required to be the best in the world. Giorgi Mamardashvili was amazing at saving shots, for example; Unai Simon's distribution was really good.

"But none of them were doing what I see Alisson do on a regular basis — the saves, the distribution, the calmness. He's the best in the world and there is no one out there at the moment who will change my mind at the moment."

Alisson will rejoin his club teammates when they return to pre-season training in the UK. At the moment, the Reds are in the USA and still have to face Arsenal and Manchester United stateside having beaten Real Betis by a goal to nil .

Slot's men will face Sevilla at Anfield the weekend before traveling to Ipswich Town for the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. Alisson is likely to play in the game against the La Liga side to get him back into the swing of things for the competition action beginning six days later.

Liverpool.com says: Alisson has been linked with a transfer move to Saudi Arabia this summer and while there is no doubt that the Saudi Pro League would love to snap up the best in the world, there is no suggestion that the Reds' number one would want to leave. He would be impossible to replace and James is right — as an all-round package, the reality is no one who can come close.
