Liverpool attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho has issued an update on his future at Anfield after starting the friendly against Real Betis on the left flank for Arne Slot . The 21-year-old and his new head coach have held talks this summer about what comes next.

"We’ve had a few conversations which I’m not going to go into detail about," Carvalho explained to reporters in the USA, including from the ECHO . "But he wants me to get my head down and work hard and see where that goes.

"[The loan at Hull City] was crucial. I needed game time and I was happy when I was playing. Every footballer wants to be playing week in and week out and I feel I got the best of myself when I was there and playing."

On Slot's style, Carvalho added: "I feel like it will fit all of us, to be fair. I feel like he plays positive football, he likes creating chances and that’s what we’ve been doing."

While Carvalho feels he can play his best soccer as a number 10, that is not a role that Liverpool often uses in its 4-3-3 formation . Against Real Betis, Carvalho was stationed on the left wing.

"I think I play better as a number 10," he admitted. "We spoke about it and [Slot] told me to try and settle on the wing but obviously I know where I play best and I feel that is as a number 10.

"I’m just going to do what he wants me to do and just work as hard as I can for him. He’s giving me good instructions and motivating me a lot in training and giving me that confidence.

"Yeah [I want to make an impact], that’s what it is all about. Not just for me but for everyone involved. There’s good chances for the young players as well, for myself as well. It’s a good chance for everyone to put their foot down and stamp their mark."

Liverpool.com says: Carvalho has some talent but he isn't really a winger, at least not in a Liverpool system where pace is vital in that department. He needs to work out what his favorite position is at Liverpool or move to a club that can give him the number 10 berth that he clearly wants.
