Raiders' underrated weapon continues to be the biggest bright spot of the offense during training camp

Tuesday in Southern California , the Las Vegas Raiders started training camp in Costa Mesa, getting back to a bit of their Los Angeles roots, but also getting that authentic camp vibe while being able to build chemistry. That is a huge part of training camp.

But, training camp is where the real work gets started. It's where the team starts their 2024 season, because now, every week, they will have football. The pads aren't on yet, and won't be till next week, but this is where the real work begins.

Right now, it's all practice until the preseason comes in a few weeks. And when the preseason comes, that's when the football games get played, and that's when it gets even more intense. And for the Raiders, they will have a pretty intense preseason as well.

There have been some pleasant surprises during the three days of training camp so far. Of course, one has been just how well Anthony Brown has thrown the ball. He has had two of the best throws during all of camp. Byron Young, the second-year defensive tackle has been getting some huge first-team and second-team reps during training camp.

And then, of course, some things have been happening that are not a surprise - Jakobi Meyers doing Jakobi Meyers things. He is easily one of the few bright spots of camp on the offensive side of the ball, as the defense continues to be the headliner.

Meyers has had some incredible plays. Even in individual drills or position drills, Meyers is catching everything, whether it be a good or bad throw. And during 1-on-1s, he torched the Raiders secondary a few times. Specifically, he won a 1-on-1 against Jack Jones, which ended up being a controversial play in practice, that had the defense saying it was out of bounds or no catch - you know, what defenses do - while the offense said it was.

Meyers doesn't do a lot of trash-talking, but he had to let Jones know.

"I do a lot of talking, but it's whispering, really. I'll slowly reply when I say something to you; I won't say it too loud." When asked about his battle with Jones, he said, "I had to make sure he knew about that one."

Meyers, for some reason, is one of the most underrated guys in the league, not just at his position, but as a whole. The Raiders have a dynamic 1-2 punch with Davante Adams and Meyers, and that's in large part because of how good Meyers is. But at the same time, people still do not realize the skill that this guy has.

"I can't really tell you I don't be on social media too much. A lot of guys did tell me they are starting notice," Meyers said. "it makes me feel good when my teammates notice."

He has shown it all throughout camp so far, and if you ask any player or media member who is there, they will tell you the same thing. Meyers is legit, and while he doesn't care about getting his flowers, he needs them.
