Olympic women's soccer bracket: Standings, what to know, what's next at Paris Olympics

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will see 12 of the world's best battle to claim a place atop the podium in what is one of the biggest tournaments in women's soccer.

The U.S. women's national team is hoping the Summer Olympics proves the group has made significant progress after underwhelming showings at last year's World Cup and in the 2020 Tokyo Games. That could mean an eventual clash with Spain, the current world No. 1. France, meanwhile, will be hoping to use home support to claim its first-ever major tournament victory.

Team Canada made the biggest news at the Paris Games, dealing with a drone surveillance scandal that has seen its squad lose its head coach and various personnel to suspension. Canada has also been deducted six points from women's competition.

Soccer has been an event at the Summer Olympics going all the way back to 1900, but the women's event is a more recent addition. Women's soccer became a full Olympic competition in 1996, and only the World Cup holds more cache in terms of international tournaments.

Here's everything you need to know about women's soccer at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
