New Horsetooth Reservoir trail will connect two popular sites

A new Horsetooth Reservoir trail connecting two popular sites is underway with an expected opening in spring of 2025.

The 1.8-mile multi-use Bay to Bay Trail will connect Inlet Bay to South Bay.

The trail will be natural surface and will hug Horsetooth Reservoir's shoreline and offer an alternative to the only current option between the two sites, Larimer County Road 38E.

Trail crews from Larimer County Department of Natural Resources and the Larimer County Conservation Corps have nearly finished 1,700 feet of the western-most trail, according to a Larimer County Department of Natural Resources release.

A natural resources department crew will complete the remaining sections later this year and hope to open the trail to the public by spring of 2025.

"The project aligns nicely with our county’s objective to offer high-quality outdoor recreation experiences," Daylan Figgs, natural resources department director said in the news release. Once finished, the trail will include a foot bridge, steps in and out of steep drainages, retaining walls, gates, trail wayfinding signs and two kiosks.

Funding for the $150,000 trail included $75,000 from a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation grant and $34,400 from a Great Outdoors Colorado grant.

Horsetooth Reservoir is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and Larimer County manages recreation on the popular reservoir.
